Beading Beading workshop sessions are held each Saturday morning from 10AM to 12 noon. Cost per session is $3.00. Anna Gerber, our very talented instructor, has a program of several projects suitable for beginners. The club does have some tools and equipment for beginners. All you need to do is turn up. The first project is a simple pair of freshwater pearl earrings. A great way to start - producing a wonderful jewellery item while learning the correct techniques. Come along and try beading. You will find it an exciting and interesting aspect of the Club activities. Faceting Class A date for the next faceting class has not been set but there will be one before the end of 2006. The classes are conducted on a weekend over 2 days. Participants will cut and polish a standard round brilliant Topaz. The cost of the course is $25 for the weekend. You will need to bring lunch on both days. Tea and coffee is provided for well earned rest breaks. Jewellery Classes The next gold jewellery class will be towards the end of August. Ross Chapman, a very talented (and patient) gemmologist runs this course. All levels of students are invited to participate. For beginners you will need to bring a 5MM or 6MM round faceted gemstone suitable for setting in a ring. Or Ross can provide a suitable stone from his supply of garnets, sapphires, amethyst, citrine. Ross will take beginners through the elements of metalsmithing beginning with "Ross' Golden Rules" - a set of guideline essential to the success in manufacturing gold jewellery. The beginner project will result in a 9CT gold ring with a solitaire stone mounted in a basket and set with 4 claws. A great piece of jewellery that will take pride of place in your collection. Cost for the day - 8.30AM to 4PM - is $15 plus any gold material that you use. Depending on the daily price of gold you should be able to make a lovely ring for around $50 - $60. Basic tools are provided for beginners.
