On 23 April 2006 NBLC Inc commenced a major
project to extend the Club house situated at Albert Bishop Park. The
extension will provide additional space for club activities as well as providing
a separate meeting room and separate permanent storage space. On
completion the building will be just over double the existing size and should
cater for growth of the club through to 2020.

The next step is to have the screw in piers put in. This is scheduled
for Wednesday April 26.
15 May Update
42 piers to support the slabs have now been "sunk". While the plans
called for 2.5 metre piers, we had to go to a depth of 11 metres in some places
to establish solid bottom.

Blocks have also been laid to prepare for the slab to be poured.

20 May Update
On
May 20 the footings were poured for the storeroom and the northern of the
building.
The slabs were poured on May 22.
27 May Update
The building extension has been "unofficially opened" by the beading class.
Due to a faceting class taking place in the old building, the beading ladies set
up their work area on the new slab. The light was very good and it was a
pleasant winter's morning in the sun.

24 July Update
The walls are up! Leon Greenway (our fabulous bricklayer) placed the
last block in place at 10AM on Monday 24 July. This is a sensational
milestone and a credit to the handful of dedicated volunteers who have provided
the labour to keep up with Leon over the last month. The next step is to
fill the blocks with concrete mix to provide strengthening and support.
Almost 5cu. metres of concrete will need to be mixed and poured. Can you
help????

26 July Update
Thanks to the efforts of 8 hard working members the block walls have now been
filled and to a degree, the large heavy labour component of our extension has
been completed. Something like 4.5Cu metres of concrete was mixed, lifted
into buckets and then poured into the walls. We estimate that just on 100 cement
mixer loads of concrete were used on the day.

October 2006 Update
The 40th. anniversary of NBLC Inc was celebrated with the opening of
the extension by Qld. MP Neil Roberts (patron of NBLC Inc).
