Cyril (Cyd) Reginald Grimstone
John Frederick Grimstone and Emma Eliza McDonald.
Throughout his life he was always known as Cyd, although born in Brisbane he and the family resided in Mackay, a coastal city over 1,000 km north of Brisbane.
In 1902 at the age of 21years he was living in Sydney which is the capital of New South Wales, he was listed on the State electoral roll as a Maltster possible a profession he obtained during his visits to the city of Toowoomba, for this is where his Uncle Charles Redwood ran the local Brewery, however on checking the Commonwealth electoral roll for 1903 he is listed as an Accountant.
1908 he married Ivy Gladys Quilliam Campbell Austin the daughter of George Austin and Elizabeth Jane Campbell, and took up residence at "Trinidad" in Corunna Road Petersham, which is an inner suburb of Sydney, here their first and only child was born, they named him, Austin Reginald Lancelot, no doubt the Austin part of the name stems from Ivy,s maiden name.
From 1915 to 1925 were listed as living at "Raamah" (ie name given to their home) at Towlers Bay Pittwater, this was situated some 25 km north of Sydney, by now he was working as a Clerk and Ivy as Home Duties, around 1925 Ivy took ill and on the 1st of May 1927 she passed away, her death was recorded as being caused by Cancer of the stomach, it would be noted that Cyril never re-married.
There was reports that the home at Towlers Bay burnt down someware between 1927 and 1930 later to be rebuilt, for the new home was photographed in late 1936, according to the electoral roll, Cyril together with his son Austin were residing at 300 Glebe Road in 1930, here his profession was listed as an Accountant.
In sports he was dedicated to Cricket, a sport that the family was renowned for in Mackay, his other activity was with the United Ancient Order of Druids, here he followed in his fathers footsteps, he joined the Druids on the 8th of April 1941 becoming a member of the Sydney lodge #271, and by 1943 he was the President of Druids District #1.
Cyril spent some time with his son Austin and his family in Brisbane in the mid 1940,s helping his son to build a home and getting to know his Grandchildren, by 1950 he had returned to Sydney this only lasted a few year, for following a car accident he returned to Brisbane.
Then on the 26th of May 1965 at the age of 84 years Cyril passed away, the cause of his death was listed as Perforated gut and Myocardial infarction, he was cremated and his ashes were placed in a Niche at Albany Creek Crematorium
